The purpose of this module is to present a different theoretical and treatment model for the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder – Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Course Objective
This program provides clinicians with the opportunity to learn about:
Dialectical Behavior Therapy–called DBT–is a comprehensive, cognitive-behavioral treatment for individuals meeting criteria for borderline personality and suicidal behaviors.
Balance of behavioral change and acceptance strategies.
Clinical trials and borderline treatment
DBT reduction of anger, suicidal episodes, hospitalizations, drop-out from treatment

Intended Audience
Nurses, Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Addiction Therapists 
Author Bio
CHARLES SWENSON, M.D Charles Swenson, MD, is currently associate professor of clinical psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and medical director for the Department of Mental Health in Western Massachusetts. While at the New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center in White Plains, New York, he directed a psychoanalytically oriented inpatient program for borderline patients. He later developed the first DBT multiprogram on the East Coast for borderline personality disorder. Dr. Swenson was twice named ―Teacher of the Year‖ by psychiatry residents at Cornell. He publishes and lectures extensively on treatment approaches for borderline patients and consults widely to systems and providers in implementing and applying DBT.
