OAKLAND - Resource information tailored for Alameda County caregivers, seniors and the disabled is available through a new Web site being tested for the county.
The Network of Care project puts everyone involved in the county's 300,000-person elderly and disabled community a mouse click away from a broad range of information, ranging from the basics of in-home care to listings for hundreds of local organizations, and information about assistive devices and products.
"Network of Care will help people find the resources they need without having to waste a lot of time searching," said Assemblywoman Dion Aroner, D-Berkeley, chairwoman of the Assembly's Human Services Committee.
"It will also provide invaluable assistance to service providers, who must serve their clients with a fragmented system," she said.
The site, located at www.alameda.networkofcare.org, also provides connections to government offices, helps track developments in homecare public policy, and offers a library of specific medical and legal information.
About 800 service providers in Alameda County are listed on the site, and their contact information can be obtained online using the site's easy-to-search databases.
The program is being paid for in part through a Long-Term Care Innovation Grant, signed by Gov. Gray Davis last year. Eventually, the Web site will be available in 14 languages and will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
