The purpose of this module is to present the use of self-psychology and cognitive behavior in treating adolescents.
Course Objective
This program provides clinicians with the opportunity to learn about:
The use of self-psychology and cognitive behavior in treating adolescents,
Combination of self-psychology and cognitive theory,
Cognitive behavioral techniques that the speaker uses and the freeze frame technique,
Discussion on cognitive behavioral techniques.

Author Bio
DAVID WEXLER, Ph.D. David Wexler, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist in private practice in San Diego, CA. He is the Director of The Relationship Violence Training Institute, which has provided group treatment services for several thousand service members through the Navy Family Advocacy Center since 1986. Dr. Wexler has designed comprehensive treatment programs and treatment manuals for Navy spouse abuse and sexual abuse programs. Dr. Wexler has pioneered the development of the use of self-psychology and cognitive behavior therapy in treating adolescents. He has developed a program for innovative self-management, called “Prism,” which outlines a range of carefully designed strategies to address problems in the adolescent “self.” He is the author of The Adolescent Self: Strategies in Self-Management, Self-Soothing, and Self-Esteem in Adolescents. This book and others illustrate treatment models which integrate self-psychology principles with practical strategies for self-cohesion in adolescents.
